Microbiology
Unravelling the potential of microalgae requires the development of disruptive technologies. Eneko's commitment to innovation in this field is demonstrated by more than 30 patents and 10 peer-reviewed papers. He has pioneered areas such as the mixotrophic production of microalgae, the discovery of a new heterotrophic species, the development of a treatment against predatory bacteria and the metabolic engineering of novel, tailor-made nutritional oils. Eneko’s research in the industry has resulted in the development of several functional food and feed products. He holds a European PhD in Microbiology from the University of Hull (UK) and the University of las Palmas of Las Palmas (Spain) and is an active member of the American Oil Chemist Society, the International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipid and the Algal Biomass Organization.
