I am a PhD candidate studying the population genetics of domesticated rice at NYU. Following domestication by about 8,000 years ago in southern China, rice transformed societies across Asia as it spread. I use genomic data from rice varieties from Asia and beyond to reconstruct its historical routes and identify adaptations to novel conditions it encountered through migration or ancient climate change.
